St. John's Health Center 75th Anniversary Gala Celebration

Saint John’s Health Center was founded in 1942 and has established itself as one of the leading hospitals in Southern California and the preeminent institution for clinical excellence and award-winning care. As the hospital prepared for their 75th Anniversary, they turned to JJLA to create a gala event unlike anything their donors have experienced. Previous galas seemed standard, hosted in elegant hotel ballrooms, yet didn’t align with the health center’s commitment to technology and development. JJLA suggested the chic and sought-after 3LABS as the venue for this year’s event, and transformed the raw space into a well-rounded event that honored the Health Center’s past while welcoming a new era of innovation. Guests arrived to a recreation of a vintage Santa Monica Pier, with a welcome arch, food carts, a jazz band and a Ferris wheel. Following cocktails, guests entered a breathtaking ballroom, featuring 70 seated rounds, to reveal a large stage with a custom LED video panels inspired by the architecture of the hospital. A palette of gold and silver created a shimmering effect throughout the room, while a stained glass motif in a sunset palette added warmth and familiarity to the set. Guests dined family style on a California inspired menu while being entertained by the likes of Jake Simpson and his band and Emmy-nominated actor and singer Darren Criss, before dancing the night away. As their lead producer, JJLA oversaw all details of the event including management, design and production. The event raised over $1.4M for the Health Center with the highest attendance to date.

In 1974, CalJam was one of the most well-executed and financially successful rock music festivals of all time, attracting 400K fans to the Ontario Motor Speedway. In 2017, the Foo Fighters and Live Nation resurrected the festival under the direction of JJLA client BWG at San Manuel Amphitheater. The event featured three stages, over twenty bands, camping, carnival rides, assorted concessions, a museum and multiple wacky and engaging installations. BWG asked the JJLA team to oversee the complete design and décor of the event, which included the artist compound, guest camping areas and the festival site. In a nod to the original event, JJLA recreated the iconic rainbow arch that served as the mainstage backdrop, though this time doubled into two massive 82’ wide arches that greeted guests at entrances. JJLA also created photo opps inside the festival including a UFO crash site, a popular art maze complete with fun house mirrors, a flamingo room and a piñata installation, and an assortment of custom-created inflatables peppered throughout the site. The artist compound evoked a “white trash campground,” though the silly theme was executed with precision. Jelly and webbed lawn chairs surrounded seating vignettes with a mix of curated materials, from old TV stands to beer tins. Front yards were defined by custom bamboo fencing with a mix of area rugs and welcome mats greeting performers. The event played to sold out crowds and much of the press coverage and social feeds featured images of JJLA’s work.

Why Don't We Anniversary Event

YouTube sensation turned chart-topping boy band, Why Don’t We, wanted to celebrate their 1-Year Anniversary with the people who launched them to fame: their fans. Atlantic Records turned to JJLA to create an intimate fan-driven event celebrating the band’s inception and unveiling their newest album. Hosted at a private residence overlooking Beverly Hills, the event featured an acoustic performance by the band and welcomed 200 of the band’s most passionate followers to the private affair which live-streamed across the band’s channels to over 2M followers. JJLA oversaw all components of the event, including concert production.

MasterChef JR FYC Stunt

If you think acclaimed celebrity Chef Gordon Ramsay is only known for his harsh critiques and sour attitude, think again! The Emmy-nominated host of Fox’s acclaimed series MasterChef Jr. was nothing but sweet, literally, at a special “For Your Children” consideration event hosted by JJLA client EndemolShine. The snarky chef had a cheerful cherry-on-top attitude as he made homemade strawberry shortcake with nearly 100 children at an invite-only event at  West Hollywood hotspot Au Fudge. As if the personalized cooking lesson wasn’t enough, Chef Ramsay had himself doused in gallons of ice cream, chocolate sauce, whipped cream and toppings by his “sous-chefs,” becoming a truly delightful human hot fudge sundae … likely as tasty as his signature dishes! JJLA oversaw all event planning, management and production for the stunt, which streamed to Facebook live and garnered over 1 million unique views!

LuLaRoe Beach Party

Women’s fashion brand LuLaRoe hosted their annual post-sales conference bash on Huntington Beach where JJLA client Black Widow Group engaged with us on overseeing the event’s decor, design and fabrication. The 20,000-person event took inspiration from large-scale art seen at installations like DesertX and Burning Man and sought a futuristic palette of metallics, coppers, golds and reflective materials. Guests entered through a 100’ long structure, featuring three 16’ tall custom dimensional brand logos flanking 2 entirely gold-clad structures. Once inside, guests discovered ten custom installations including 8’ tall, tiered, mirrored pyramids, 100’ of reflective 8’ mirrored spikes, 13’ “BE” letters, a nod to the conference’s theme, several 8’ diameter tubes branded with popular graphic patterns of the brand and a 30’ swing set built upon the brand’s logo. Our staff of over 40 carpenters, fabricators and production crew brought our designs to life in our shop over four weeks before our four-day beach installation began. In addition to the custom fabrication, our team coordinated on site rentals and design, including installation of custom stretch tents, tabletop decor and ambient lighting. Beyond the art installations, the event featured two stages with performances by Bryan Wilson and Ziggy Marley, fire dancers, aerialists and other immersive acts, and over 40 unique food vendors.

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season Wrap Party

What better way to unveil Cadillac’s all-new CT6 Plug-In than pairing it with ABC’s elite, action-adventure series Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. JJ|LA transformed the raw, open warehouse space 440 Seaton in downtown LA into a spy training facility for the finale party for ABC’s elite, action-adventure series Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The event integrated Cadillac’s all-new CT6 Plug-In electric vehicle as a fully immersive experience within the party. Guests had the opportunity to experience the CT6 Plug-In through several activations in the space, including a virtual reality showroom, an experiential video wall highlighting car features, and immersive vehicle tours. Guests were entertained by beats from DJs Coco & Breezy while snacking on spy-inspired menu of tasty bites, and posed for their own “hero shots” at a custom-designed Scenario Photo Booth. The underground warehouse decor was highlighted by a 12’x12’ hanging projection installation featuring morphing images of S.H.I.E.L.D spies. JJ|LA flipped another ordinary industry event into a fully-immersive experience that had clients at ABC and Marvel applauding while finding a unique and fitting event to match with Cadillac's CT6 Plug-In.

Land Rover Discovery North American Launch

Land Rover markets their all new Discovery as “equipped to take you anywhere in comfort and style. Versatility and capability have never been more dynamically realized.” So when searching for a North American venue to showcase the impressive credentials of the iconic model, it’s no wonder they landed in Venice, California. Event management firm, KRO Events, selected JJ|LA from a full slate of creative production houses to handle all production, design and fabrication for the launch event. The challenge, to feature all of the agile, dynamic and sports-like attributes of the vehicle, while still showcasing the high-end, luxury appeal of the brand. JJ|LA concepted and pitched the idea of the “Adventures Garage,” a structure whose walls was filled with the most high-end, aspirational sports equipment from skis to surfboards, wetsuits to bicycles, that the Land Rover driver might ultimately use with their SUV. In addition to the main “garage” feature, constructed from covered truss, fabric mesh wall panels with metallic grid frames to evoke shelving, two secondary activations with additional SUVs paid homage to the vehicle’s dexterity from water to land. The five-day event popped up along Venice’s iconic Abbot Kinney Blvd. where an eclectic mix of surfers, shoppers, foodies and adventurers got their first-look at the Discovery before it hit the floor of the LA Auto Show. The event featured celebrity appearances, fitness demonstrations and food trucks causing a publicity and media frenzy that left the entire Land Rover team, including the brand’s Global Head of Design, beaming at the outcome and response.
