The Liberty Hill Upton Sinclair Celebration 2024 was held on April 17th at the stunning Skirball Cultural Center. The event commemorates the foundation’s efforts in supporting movements tackling social justice issues head-on in Los Angeles.
Liberty Hill invited their community of 600 frontline organizers, community leaders, and donor activists to celebrate honorees who have driven social change in Los Angeles the past year. The event was filled with networking, food, and immersive activations, allowing guests to mingle before the evening’s program honoring the year’s achievers.
This year’s theme, ‘On the Road to Justice’, guided guests through a journey of their social justice pillars featuring activations and photo opportunities. These pillars align with Liberty Hill’s ‘Agenda for a Just Future’, which was visually depicted on a lenticular wall. One side featured a collage representing all aspects of their social justice work alongside the word ‘JUSTICE’, while the other displayed the progressive flag and the phrase ‘For All’, serving as a poignant reminder of Liberty Hill’s mission.
The programming segment of the evening celebrated activists and community leaders, including Aloe Blacc, who not only received the Creative Vision Award but also treated guests to performances before kicking off the evening’s after-party.
In JJLA’s third year of producing this event, we’ve developed a close-knit relationship with Liberty Hill. This milestone year marked the culmination of their shift from a traditional gala dinner to a more interactive style event. Together, we’ve conceptualized creative ideas, journeys, and inventory to consistently honor their impactful work. The fabricated elements, which have grown in scale and quality each year, are now utilized by Liberty Hill and their valued community partners throughout the year.
