The Liberty Hill Organization celebrated 40 years of their annual gala: The Upton Sinclair Celebration. They hoped to focus on their Environmental Justice initiatives as the event lined up so closely to Earth Day. In addition, they wanted to commemorate the 40 years of Upton Sinclair celebrations they have had to date.

The event took place from on April 19th, 2023 at the Skirball Cultural Center. After check in, enjoyed a nice reception with live music, a DJ, and a variety of food from around the world. The guests also interacted with various activations such as an interactive plant “LIVING” wall in which guests were encouraged to add a flower to the installation. Also on display were 7 fabricated trees that reflected the honorees and grantees of current and past. Giveaways included photos from the photo booth and step and repeat, branded seed papers, and screen printed tote bags.

The evening highlighted a lively program that included performances by the Syncopated Ladies tap group and a special moment of recognition for the honorees of the last 40 years.
